Straight Talk- Same Phones, Same Networks, Half the Price

If you know me, you know how much I love technology, and saving money. As a Walmart Mom, I often get the chance to do both. Over the next few months, I’ll be testing out the Straight Talk service as well as a couple of devices offered by Walmart, and I’ll let you know all about my experience with the very affordable cellular service.

This time, I’ve been given the chance to try out the iPhone 5s, and have been given service on the LTE system in my area.

My iPhone arrived with very simple instructions on how to set it up and activate it.

Set up for my iPhone was very quick. First, just head over to the Straight Talk home page, and mouse over Activate/Reactivate. There will be a drop down menu, and click on “Phones”. On the next page, it’ll ask you what you want to set up, either activate service, transfer from one phone to another in the Straight Talk service, or activate service with a phone number from another company. Choose the selection that you want, and click continue. In my case, I chose to Activate new Straight Talk service. On the next screen, I am asked to input my IMEI/Serial Number, Zip Code, and choose my service plan option. I had a prepaid card, so all I had to do was enter my PIN. I created an account, and that was it! Now I have full access to make any changes to my account, easily check my balance and service end date, set up auto refill, etc.

I’ve been keeping my phone from another service close by, because I wanted to check out the difference in service. So far, I have only noticed a little bit of a difference, but only because in my area, the service shown on the map isn’t as fast as I had hoped for. Running speed tests on my phone has shown a difference in speed, especially when indoors at certain places. For the most part though, it’s been really good!

We chose the iPhone 5S to try out, only because it was the only phone with the fastest speed capabilities in my area. I am not an iPhone person, and trying to use this phone has proven that… I have to keep reminding myself that it’s not an android device, which I am so totally used to.

Straight Talk offers a lot of phones at great prices. Many of the very same phones that you can get at the large cellular companies. The biggest difference, is the monthly price. For just $45/month, you get Unlimited nationwide talk, text and data (high speed data for the first 3GB of data use). For our current cell plan with another company, we pay $165/month, and our data is limited to 4GB shared. The other thing, with Straight Talk, there’s NO CONTRACT. I really don’t like be locked down in a two year contract, and be stuck with the same phone for that long too!

There is a lot more to come over the next few months. Keep track as I fumble through the iPhone 5S, and really put the Straight Talk service to the test as we travel around NC, and beyond!

Straight Talk is available exclusively at Walmart, Walmart.com and StraightTalk.com learn more at the Straight Talk website.
