DIY- Memorial Day Table Cloth and Decorations

I love decorating our home for the various holidays, but sometimes, you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for, and quite frankly, decorations can get expensive.

This month, I wanted to show you something very simple that you can do, that is not only very festive, but also VERY inexpensive!

I made a Red, White & Blue tablecloth for Memorial Day, out of $1 Bandanas from Walmart! If you have a sewing machine, or even if you just sew by hand, this is something that just about anyone can do, and it adds some color to any decor. It’s also something that can be used multiple times during the year, since we have more than one Patriotic Holiday.

Here’s how easy it is!

I bought 4 bandanas of each color (Red, White & Blue), at $1 each, this custom table cloth is only $12 for my sized table.

Bandanas

Each bandana measures approximately 22in square, so buy enough to cover your table.

I started with red. I put two bandanas, right side in, and stitched along one edge of the square to connect them. I repeated this until all of the red ones were connected lengthwise. I moved on to the white ones, doing the same thing, and then the blue ones. Sewing

I now had 3 long strips of fabric. Then, I took the red and white strips, and put them right side in, so the previous stitching faced out on both sides, and I sewed them together along the long edge, and then sewed the blue to the white until all three stripes were connected together and big enough to cover my table!

I wasn’t kidding when I said it was simple. Making this tablecloth probably took me about 15 minutes in total. It’s very light weight, so if you use it outside, you’ll want to make sure you weigh it down with something, or just keep it covered with goodies! Wash it as you would any other fabrics!

To add a little bit more festivity to our table, I took the candle holders that I bought around Christmas time, and filled the bottom with red, white and blue artificial flowers from the craft section at Walmart. They had bunched flowers in patriotic colors for $3 per bunch.

CandleFlowersAll in all, for about $15, I was able to add some patriotic, reusable, decor, and even use it as a learning opportunity to teach my girls how to sew! They were excited about that!

Do you have any other great ideas for DIY Patriotic Decor? I’d love to see what you come up with!
