Preparing Your Home for the Holidays

I love the holidays. I really do… I love the cooking, I love the laughter, I love the family and friends. I even love the preparation. Cleaning, Cooking, Decorating… It’s all fun to me.. sort of.

Getting the holiday preparation done can also be very stressful. Hopefully, this post can give you a quick reminder of some things that you can do to get ready for company! Here are my top 5 things that I do in order to prepare for the holidays.

1. Cleaning from top to bottom! Of course, the basic wipe down of cabinets and counter tops needs to be done, but don’t forget to clean the tops of your door and window frames, and your baseboards! Dust always collects on baseboards! The Swiffer Bissell SteamBoost Mop is great for cleaning and disinfecting your floors. The Swiffer Dusters are great for grabbing dust from your counters and even baseboards!

2. Decorate! Make the house look festive! Set up your mantle, living room, dining room, etc, to look like the holidays! You don’t have to have a ton of decorations. Do whatever works for your space! You can find some great decorations at your local Walmart, or on Walmart.com!

3. Plan your menu. Are you cooking everything yourself? Or are you sharing the tasks with people who you’ve invited? Are you going to make the traditional Turkey, Mashed Potatoes & Stuffing? Or are you doing something totally different? Walmart has everything you need for baking that turkey or desserts in store, or online! Make sure you have all the cooking utensils that you need and even the hot pads to keep you from burning yourself with all the hot dishes coming out of your oven!

4. Set up your serving area and table settings! Make sure you have all of the dishes you need to cover all of the food that will be served, and all of your guests! You can go festive and have bright colored items that match your decor, or you can go simple, like us and get the Better Homes & Gardens Square Porcelain Dinnerware Set! This year, I also bought the Better Homes & Gardens Square Bowl and Platter Set that match my dishes. I thought that the veggies and meat would look great being served on them instead of the usual foil pans that I bake them in.

5. Try to Relax and Enjoy your Holidays!

I do hope that this will help you prepare at least a little bit, for your holidays!

What are some things that you do to prepare your home for the holidays? What are some must have items that everyone should have for holiday entertaining?
