Summer is in full swing, and this year, we are actually not planning a vacation during the Summer months. We’ve spent more time together closer to home this year than we have in a long time. We’ve also started riding our bicycles together as a family too! My girls took their time learning how to ride, but finally, after watching their daddy compete in local on-road and off-road triathlons, they finally were determined enough to want to learn how to ride on their own. Once they were able to ride on their old bikes, we make the decision to buy them some “grown up” bikes. Once our bikes came in, we started going out on rides almost every afternoon or so.
We found that the kids really liked riding their bikes… So much so that when we were done, they wanted to keep going. Of course, once it started getting dark, our main concern was being visible for any cars coming through the neighborhood. Naturally, there is the bright, reflective clothing, head light and tail light… but we wanted to have a little bit of fun with their bikes. They’ve been seeing bicycles out there with colored lights around the wheels, and I just so happened across some at my local Walmart store.
I found these Mini LED Spoke Lights, called SEE’EM by Nite Ize, in both pink and purple, and thought they’d be perfect! They did have blue and I think green as well. They’re simple to snap on the spokes, and are water resistant, in case you get caught in the rain. We tried these out on their bikes and they thought they were the coolest things. I was hoping they’d be a little brighter, but they do draw attention to their bikes. I do want to buy another pack, and add even more light to their spokes to see how bright we can make it. Check out this little video that I’ve added! It shows the lights in action!
Something else we do take very seriously in the Summer months is staying hydrated. We always hear– Drink water.. Water is best… etc. etc.. But who likes to drink warm water? We have heard all the hype about some really expensive stainless steel cups that cost anywhere from $30-$40. Guess what? I found very similar cups for less than HALF that cost at Walmart. YES! This is totally letting the secret out, but Ozark Trail has 30 oz Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Tumblers for less than $10 each, and 20 oz tumblers at less than $8 each. Why did we choose the Stainless Steel Tumblers over other water bottles/cups? Because they stay cold for hours! Yes, I’ve tested it. I filled my cup with ice at night, and late into the next day, I still have ice water. We will fill it up with ice water, go on a drive, park and come back to a hot car, and still have ice water. Yes… They are pretty awesome for the price.
Another thing that makes them fun is that they’re essentially a blank canvas. I gave the girls a chance to customize their cups so that they’ll know who’s is whose. I let them choose what design they wanted and used my vinyl cutter to create some pretty cool designs for them! Now, they can drink ice cold water all day long.. In fact, since I gave these cups to them, they’ve used them constantly!
