DIY- Braided Crochet Winter Scarf

It’s Winter! That means cold weather in many parts of the country, here included. I have always wanted to make myself a really cool scarf, and this DIY project is where I finally get to do that! Since completing this scarf, I’ve worn it around and have received so many compliments on it. It’s very different, and I must admit… very quick and easy to make. All you need is a bunch of yarn, and a crochet hook, and you can find all of that at your local Walmart store!

Here’s what you need:

5 Skeins of a fluffy yarn like Bernat Soft Boucle or similar

A size K/10 1/2-6.50MM Crochet hook.

This scarf is truly one of the easiest I’ve ever made. Why? Because it’s made with what’s called a Foundation Double Crochet stitch. This takes out the need for the long foundation chain, and then going back over it with the double crochet. You get all of it done at one time. It leads to a much more even stitch.

To make this scarf, I used my size K hook and did 5 individual lengths of 160 Foundation Double Crochet stitches. Not familiar with how to do it? Check out my video below and follow along!

Once my 5 strands of 160 stitches were done. I put them all side by side and stitched them together flat on one end using some of the left over yarn. Next was time to braid them all together. Below is a diagram of how to braid 5 strands.

Once the length was completely braided, I stitched the bottom together flat. From there, I did a single crochet along the top and bottom ends just to clean them up a bit and make them look even. Tuck in all the loose ends, and that is it!!!!

This scarf is thick, it’s warm and it’s something unlike many others that I’ve seen

So, that’s it! It’s very simple to make, and I got this one done in about a couple of hours.
