Scrap booking is Not Just For Albums Anymore

Scrap booking was all the rage back in the early 2000’s. Friends would get together every few weeks and have scrap booking parties. Papers and tools would be shared, and photo albums would be oogled over. I even subscribed to several scrap booking idea magazines! I’m sure many of you did too! I loved seeing how creative I could get with titles, and ribbons and random embellishments… and then I went digital. It just seemed easier sometimes to put everything on a digital page and print it out already designed. But then, what to do with all of my cool scrap booking tools? Well, I still have them… so I’m going to use them to make greeting cards.

A good handwritten note is something that has all but disappeared with the age of email. In this blog post, I’m going to show you how you I used my Silhouette Cameo cutting machine to make 3D Valentine’s Cards for the kids to hand out at school, using supplies I purchased at my local Walmart store! This one I’m going to give to my hubby, but the idea is the same for others.

Here is everything you’ll need for this project:

–  Blank Cards

– Colorful Cardstock

– Cutting machine like Silhouette Cameo or Cricut

– Markers/Gel Pens

– Glue

– Tape

– Foam Dots

I used my Cameo to cut out the words and a punch to cut out the shapes, but if you have other cutting options, die cutter, scissors, punches, etc, you can use those as well.

First, I took a blank card, and placed it on my cutting mat. I chose a sentiment to write inside the card and set it to write with a pen designed for my machine.

Once that was done, I chose the cardstock that I planned to use for the design on the front. I set those to cut while I got my glue and foam dots ready. I also used this time to punch out the hearts and set them aside.

First was to put the words “Be Mine” together on the base color. The easiest way to keep the letters in line is to take a piece of tape, painter’s tape, etc and put it across the letters once you’ve taken out all of the unwanted pieces. That will lift the letters and keep them where they are supposed to be on the base color.

Carefully dab glue to the letters and place them on the background color, leaving the tape on it while it dries for a bit.

Carefully remove the tape from the letters and use a foam dot to secure the cut out to the card! This gives it a little pop out 3D look!

I just glued the punched out hearts in various spots around the card for decoration.

There are a number of designs you can use, available on line, or you can design your own. No matter what you do though, Walmart is sure to have everything you need to make your project complete!
