Start Off the New Year Organized!

Every time the New Year rolls around, I get myself in gear, and try to get at least something organized to make life just a little bit easier. Well, last year, we decided that my office was no longer going to be upstairs, but rather, putting the rarely used guest room to better use, I’d move my office in there. It sounded like a great idea at first. Things got a little crazy during the year, as the guest room became the catch-all room when we had unexpected guests… You know what I’m talking about! Well, this year, I’m taking my office back from the clutter and making it an efficient and well-organized room… Starting now.

deskbefore2My desk is A MESS…. Seriously… It needs help. Between the girls’ school papers, my random projects and work stuff… I need help! So… I headed over to my local Walmart store to grab a few things that I thought would help de-clutter and organize this ridiculousness.

You could say that I did some shopping…

First, I set up my file cabinet. I knew I needed a file for each of my daughters. Their school work is saved through the year just in case of any issues, and then only special projects are saved in a box. I needed a file for receipts, and a file for product manuals, and another one for warranty receipts. Cabinet done.

I set up the drawer organizers next, and got an extra bin set aside for certain booklets. The next step was going through everything and throwing away things I didn’t need. Random papers, wrappers from things I bought, and pieces left over from previous craft projects, all needed to go! As I picked things up from the desk, they either got put away where they needed to be, or got thrown away. There was no alternative.

So, it took me a few hours, but I finally was able to see my desk again. Pens and pencils and other random tidbits have a home. I used the mini drawers on top of my desk to store threads and needles for my sewing machine. The mini crate holds my Weight Watchers mini magazines, that all have awesome recipes in them.

I can finally find things that I’ve been looking for! This is only step one in the whole organization process for this room. Someday, we hope to build in cabinets and a murphy bed, and so much more… This room has no closet, as it was built to be an “office”. We only use it as a guest room a couple of times a year, so making it my office was the best idea!

Walmart has everything you need to organize your home… From Office and Laundry Room to Kitchen and Bathroom, and their every day low prices, you can organize an entire room at a time!

What is your biggest organization need in your house right now?
