It's Time to Read Across America

I absolutely love to read. I wish I had more time for it! My girls love to read also, and whenever there’s a chance to help others learn to love reading, we do it! Read Across America is coming up, and we are so excited!

Read Across America is a national reading awareness and motivation program created by the National Education Association.  Typically the festivities are centered around Dr Seuss’s Birthday, which is on March 2nd. This year, we are celebrating that entire week at our school, with reading sessions, a parade, and some really fun activities!

DSC_0463The girls can’t wait for the festivities at school! This year, they are the entire school is dressing up as book characters. Each class has chosen a theme to work with and our class has chosen LEGO books. They can dress up as a character from any LEGO book that they have, and of course, my girls have chosen to dress up as Wyldstyle and Unikitty… Oh goodness.. the photos I will have to share next week.

Many of the other classes have chosen some great themes, a couple of them being characters from Dr. Seuss books!

Speaking of which…. Walmart is doing their part to help support the Read Across America campaign, and child literacy. In honor of this event, Walmart is offering some great deals on their Dr. Seuss beginner books, normally $8.99, you can get them for just $5.. and their board books, normally $4.99, now $3.50.. all starting on February 23rd!

Check out NEA’s Read Across America page for more news, event ideas and fun stuff for your classroom, home school, libraries, and more!

What’s your favorite Dr. Seuss book?? I remember reading One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish  a lot as a little one!
