Help Walmart Give Toys to Those in Need #FillTheTruck

Every year for the last 3 or 4 years, Walmart has given me to opportunity to spend $100 on toys that I get to donate to charity in my local community, and each time I have an absolute blast shopping! This year was no exception!

I must have spent hours in my local Walmart store, walking around, looking at all the toys, and trying to see how many toys I could get for $100. The decision was between, but up a bunch of little things, or buy just a couple of bigger things. I thought about both options, weighing in the pros and cons of each… and finally just decided I was going to see how many cool things I could get for the money. I’m a decent bargain shopper, so I figured this wouldn’t be too bad.

BasketFirst up… Board Games! I grabbed Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders for only $4.88 a piece! I found a bunch of toys suitable for little ones from Kid Connection, and they were less than $5 a piece also! I got a pack of toy trucks and one of the travel magnetic writers. I picked out a couple of Transformers Beast Hunters toys that looked like they’d be interesting. I’m horrible a picking out boys’ toys, since I’m constantly surrounded by pink and purple  at home…

Down the doll aisle, I picked up a couple of Bratz dolls for less thatn $10 each, and a Monster High doll. I heard that those are pretty popular right now. I also found a Disney Princess Wand, Disney Princess Squinkies, some play doh, and a fashion drawing journal. I knew that these were some toys my girls would like, so I figured they’d be well received by other girls too. I know Monster’s University is big right now, and I found some figurines that looked cool.

I thought that this was a pretty good spread of toys that I could donate, so I headed over to the checkout lanes, and took them straight to the Toys for Tots box at the front of my store! I love that my job allows me to do things like this, and any time I can help out my local community, I jump at the chance.

FillTheTruck05Here, we have Toys for Tots, but in other communities, Walmart has a Fill The Truck program. You’ll find boxes that look like trucks at the front of your local stores. You can place your toy donations in those and Walmart will work with your local Salvation Army to get toys distributed to the children of the community who are in need!

You can even share your stories of how you are helping your local community on Social Media by tagging your posts with #FillTheTruck!
