Walmart's Fresh Produce Guarantee

Have you heard about Walmart’s 100% Fresh Produce Guarantee?

“We’re listening to our customers and delivering on our promise to offer great produce at the most affordable price,” said Jack Sinclair, executive vice president of the food business for Walmart U.S. “We are so sure our customers will be pleased with the fruits and vegetables they buy in our stores, they can receive a full refund if they aren’t completely happy.”

The retailer’s initiative includes:

  • Delivering produce from farms to store shelves faster by purchasing fruits and vegetables directly from growers and leveraging Walmart’s produce experts, distribution centers and trucking systems;
  • Executing independent weekly checks in its more than 3,400 Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets and Express Stores that sell produce; and,
  • Launching Fresh Produce Schools and other expanded training programs to 70,000 associates.

I’m personally, very excited about this! There have been a few times that I’ve purchased large bags or boxes of produce and got home, only to find out that something in the middle was not as fresh as the ones that were visible.

I recently had a chance to meet with some of the Produce folks at Walmart home office, and we talked about the new policies in place, and how they’re implementing the various training programs, and weekly checks. We even got to take a peek at the quality guides that the Associates carry. It shows various produce at various levels of ripeness, and gives them guidance as to what to leave on the shelf, and what to discard. It seems to be working at my local stores! Produce has been looking a lot better than it has in the past.
