Ahhh The Smurfs… Their “song” still rings through my head every once in a while when my girls catch them on the TV or turn on the original movie on DVD. I grew up watching the Smurfs cartoon, and even to this day, they hold a special place in my heart. I was excited when the first movie came out, and now, I’m even more excited to see Smurfs 2 coming to the big screen!
When I was in Bentonville, earlier this Summer, I had the chance to attend a screening of sorts for Smurfs 2. The movie wasn’t wholly complete yet, but what we did get to see was pretty cool! The parts that weren’t finalized were like mockups in the computer rather than the smooth finish that everyone else gets to see in the theater. I felt totally cool that day.. Like I was getting to see something that no one else gets to see. Yes, the geek in me totally shined through. While we didn’t get to see the entire movie, we did get to see portion of it that gave us a good idea of what it was going to be like, and what it was going to be about…
Synopsis: In this sequel to Columbia Pictures / Sony Pictures Animation’s hybrid live action/animated family blockbuster comedy The Smurfs™, the evil wizard Gargamel creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties that he hopes will let him harness the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence. But when he discovers that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants, and only a secret spell that Smurfette knows can turn the Naughties into real Smurfs, Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette and brings her to Paris, where he has been winning the adoration of millions as the world’s greatest sorcerer. It’s up to Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity to return to our world, reunite with their human friends Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her! Will Smurfette, who has always felt different from the other Smurfs, find a new connection with the Naughties Vexy and Hackus or will the Smurfs convince her that their love for her is True Blue?
