Safety First! Check Your Smoke Alarms!

According to National Fire Protection Association, almost two-thirds of home fire deaths from 2005 to 2009 resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.

No one ever expects a fire in their home, but for some reason, there have been a lot of house fires on the news this year. Luckily, many of them have not resulted in any lives lost, thanks to their smoke alarms. It is so very important to make sure that your smoke alarms are always in working order. They are so easy to get, and even easier to maintain. You can find them at any home improvement store, and even online at some of the biggest online retailers.

A properly installed and maintained smoke alarm is the only thing in your home that can alert you and your family to a fire 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whether you are awake or asleep, a working smoke alarm is constantly on alert, scanning the air for fire and smoke. They can mean the difference between life and death.

Some smoke detectors are wired into your home electricity and have a battery backup, while others run on battery alone. Regardless of the type you have, you want to make sure that you change your batteries regardless of if they are dead or not. A good way to remember  when to change your batteries is to do it with the time changes. Keep batteries handy just in case your smoke alarm batteries run out sooner.
