Time for a Closet Makeover!

We’ve been in our house for a little over a year, and we have been so disorganized. Our closets have been a mess of boxes and piles of things like shoes and t-shirts. It was time to make some changes.

I was given the chance to do a really cool closet makeover for my girls, and it couldn’t have come at a better time! Their closets seemed like they were going to be taking over their rooms if something hadn’t changed sooner!

The first thing I did was take everything, and I mean everything out of their closets. Next, it was all about building and organizing.

We have been searching for a solution for all of their toys. They have so many of them, especially stuffed animals, it’s been hard to find a way to organize them. I found this Sauder toy chest that seemed like it would be a perfect solution. It was easy to put together. It came with all of the hardware necessary  All I needed to bring with me was a hammer and screwdriver.

The next thing we really needed was a solution for all of their shoes. They had a wooden shoe organizer already, but the holes for the cubbies were too small. Even with their small feet (which are growing by the day), it was hard to fit some of their shoes in it. The new 12  shoe organizer from Canopy has large enough spaces that my husband’s shoes fit in them by the pair! Not individual shoes in each bin like with the wooden ones!

We’ve tried the fabric closet shelves before, but they’ve always seemed to sag, or break within just a few weeks of use. These new 6 shelf fabric shelves from Canopy have bamboo weaved into the bottom of each shelf to offer strength and stability, rather than a thin piece of cardboard sewn in that will just bend as soon as you weigh it down with any clothes.

The large fabric boxes by Canopy that are on the top shelf are large enough to hold a twin sized comforter and extra blankets! That’s what we have in them! Rather than use the hall linen closet, each of my girls has all the blankets and sheets that they need right in their own closet! The medium fabric box on the top shelf is holding some older toys that my daughter doesn’t play with often, but wanted to save. We have more of the fabric boxes that we are going to use for their other toys.  We will be going through everything they have and deciding what we’re keeping and what we’re getting rid of. We are going to label each box with what toys are in it. One for Barbies, one for Littlest Pet Shop, and One for their Disney Figurines. I’m sure there will be more labels to make once we really dive into their remaining boxes.

Not pictured in the photo is the 3 bin laundry organizer too. My girls have a habit of leaving their clothes on the bathroom floor, or their bedroom floor. That stopped with the laundry sorter. They now are learning how to sort out their clothes to make it easier for mommy to wash!

This closet organization stuff is no joke! Using these few items gave us so much more room than before! I was even able to clear off their bookshelf of stuffed animals and make room for more books and photos! I can’t wait to actually jump into organizing MY closet!

I am a participant in the Walmart Moms program. Walmart provided me with products used for this closet makeover as well as compensation for my time and efforts on this post. Participation in this program is voluntary. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.
