Today We Remember

Today is not just another Monday.  Today is not about the beer or the bbq… although both are fun. It’s not even about the road trips or the extra day off from work.

Memorial Day is all about remembering. Today is a special day, on which we remember the Service Members who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Those that have fought and lost their lives so that we may enjoy whatever it is that we are doing today.

As a Walmart Mom, I get to find out all about some of the really cool things that they are doing to help out the community, and, that includes their commitment to helping out our Service Members! Walmart strives to support their heroism in a variety of ways and has worked to understand and address some of the specific and special unmet needs that our Service Members face. Right now, they know one of their biggest needs is employment, and the tools necessary to prepare for a career outside of the military.

Walmart is a national sponsor of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s “Hiring Our Heroes” job fairs. Our support will help the Chamber put on hundreds of job fairs across the country this year where Walmart, Sam’s Club and other employers will have the opportunity to recruit veterans. Over the last year, tens of thousands of veterans have been connected to job opportunities through more then100 fairs. For a full list of upcoming events please visit www.uschamber.com/veterans.

Walmart also recently launched www.walmartcareerswithamission.com, an innovative resource that helps transitioning military and veterans match their skills to Walmart careers.

Something else that I absolutely love  is their Our Military Family Promise, which guarantees a job at a nearby store or club for all military personnel, and military spouses, employed at Walmart and Sam’s Club who move to a different part of the country because they or their spouse have been transferred by the United States military. The promise also ensures associates called away to active military duty will be paid any difference in their salary if the associate is earning less money during their military assignment. You don’t find programs like that very often from employers.

Walmart has several other programs that I just don’t have the space to highlight in one post.

On this Memorial, we keep the Service Members and their Families who they have left behind in our thoughts and prayers.

I am a participant in the Walmart Moms program. Walmart provided me with compensation for my time and efforts on this post. Participation in this program is voluntary. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.
