DIY- Crocheted Cupcake Scarf

This was my very first, absolutely freely designed crocheted projects. The Chocolate Hostess Cupcake is one of those things that I grew up eating. It was a very good day when I found one of those in my lunch box at school lunch time. I figured it would be super cute to actually have a novelty scarf, you know.. something totally different, and this was the first thing that came to my mind.

It was actually very simple to make. The only problem I had was not running out to buy the cupcakes while I was making it!

What you’ll need:

  • At least 2 skeins of your favorite Brown yarn. I like Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Coffee.
  • 1 skein of white yarn. I like Red Heart Super Saver in White.
  • A Crochet hook. Size depends on the gauge you want. I like using a J size Hook.

So, to start, decide how long in total, that you want your scarf to be.

Next, take your brown yarn, and crochet in the round, increasing each circle as you go until you reach the desired diameter. Keep track because you’re going to have to make a bunch of these! Measure the diameter of your circle and divide the total length by the diameter of your first circle. That’s how many of these brown circles that you need to make.

I made 15 circles in about a 5 inch diameter.

Once you have all of your circles made, start making the *icing*. Take your white yarn, and just crochet a simple chain long enough to make 3 loops across the center of the circle. Make enough of these so you have one for each circle!

Now here’s where I cheat a little. Take a needle and thread and sew those white chains onto the circles forming the loops as you go. Once those are all done, take a large needle and use the brown yarn to sew the circles ends together.

Once you have all of the circles connected, you are all set! Enjoy!

You can do this in any color, and with or without the swirls. Have fun with it!

Have you made this? I’d love to see pics! Share them below!
