Fresh Start- Getting into the groove

This week is all about  getting active… but doing it while traveling!

If you’re like me, and have this awesome workout routine, but you travel every so often, you know that travel can kill a workout program. BUT. I am here to tell you that you can still get in a decent workout while you’re on the road! I did it last week!

Last week, my hubby had to travel for work up to our Nation’s Capital. I decided it would be perfectly fun if the kids and I tagged along to take in some of the sights. I was right… We had a blast! But I totally missed my TaeKwonDo and Kisado classes. Luckily, I had planned ahead! I packed my resistance bands, my 5lb & 8lb soft weighted balls, my Wii, and my favorite Wii fitness programs… the EA SPORTS Active series, including my new EA SPORTS Active 2 sent to me for this program from Walmart! I had also received, just in time for this trip, the Michael Jackson The Experience dance game. I was ready for a week of exercise… It didn’t completely work out.

We got to the hotel, and it was almost perfect! We had a good sized living area where I had plenty of room to work out. We were on the first floor, so I didn’t have to worry about people below me complaining about me jumping on their ceiling. The only issue was… They had an older tube tv that didn’t have any inputs for me to plug in the Wii. NOooooo. During Breakfast on Monday, we were told by the manager that they were upgrading tv’s that week, and that we would be able to hook up the Wii… I wanted on that list and fast! Unfortunately, we didn’t get our new TV until Friday, our last day there. In the meanwhile, I checked out a few websites that showed various exercises that I could do with the equipment I brought with me… and without. One of my favorite sites to find a large variety of exercises is LIVESTRONG.com. I put together a small routine for the week and used it as my own personal Kisado class. Not as intense, but it was something, and it took a minimal amount of space and equipment.

When our new TV arrived Friday, we only had a couple of hours of free time, but my girls and I took the opportunity to try out the Michael Jackson The Experience game. It was actually pretty fun, and I ended up getting into the dancing so much, I had worked up a little sweat! My girls were giggling and having fun just trying to keep up with the game. The goal of the game is to dance, in rhythm, as closely as possible with the dancer on screen. There are pictograms on the side bar showing you what move is coming up, to help you keep up. Michael Jackson The Experience is good for 1-4 players, which makes it a fun for the whole family. We even tried the Thriller dance, which was supposed to be Hard/Inhuman.. Yes, that’s what it says… Sure it was tough, but I made it through!

We got back home this weekend and I’ve been working on settling back into regular life. Kisado & TaeKwonDo on Monday were amazing, and as soon as I get a free chance, I’ll be trying out the EA SPORTS Active 2 for the Wii, and Your Shape Fitness Evolved on the XBox 360…. Thanks to XBox for sending me an XBox360 with Kinect! I can’t wait to try it out!

I am a participant in the Walmart Moms program.  Join me and my fellow Walmart Moms, and read about all of our New Year’s goals, and how we’re all making a Fresh Start in 2011! Walmart provided me with the games mentioned in this post as well as an XBox360. Walmart has provided me with compensation for my time on this post and video.  Participation in this program is voluntary. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.
