Fresh Start ~ Watching What I Eat

I’m continuing my Fresh Start for the new year by watching what I eat. I’m getting rid of the junk food, and eating healthier. That includes adding more fruit and veggies to my meals, and snacking less on chips and other sweets, and more of things that are good for me.

This week, I was given a chance to check out some products that can help people like  me, and you, eat healthier.

Cheerios, the ever recognizable bright yellow box, is a great option for breakfast! It’s 100% natural whole grain oats, which is proven to lower cholesterol and help your heart stay healthy! It doesn’t contain any weird preservatives or processed sugar..  We love Cheerios in our house!

Special K Red Berries, is filled with sweet strawberries, crispy rice and whole grain wheat flakes. Special K Granola has clusters of whole grain oats, and a touch of honey. Special K’s Low Fat Granola Cereal has 5 grams of fiber and 3 grams of fat per serving. It’s actually something we like to snack on, but it also makes a great way to start your day.

We love yogurt in our house, and there are a lot of different kinds to choose from. I suggest looking for yogurt without High Fructose Corn Syrup, and without artificial colors. There are studies that show if you replace your breakfast and lunch with yogurt, a grain and a fruit, you could lose up to 5 pounds in 2 weeks.

Tysons Grilled and Ready Chicken makes dinner quick and easy for us. They are already fully cooked, and ready to go, hot or cold. Our favorite are the Chicken Breast Strips. All we have to do is toss them on top of salad and go! They’re available in frozen and refrigerated options.

I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter is a good alternative with 70% less saturated fat than butter, no hydrogenated oils and 0g trans fat per serving.

I always keep gum in my purse too. If I get snacky (yes, that’s an official term), I grab a piece of gum, and that works for me!

Of course, any healthy eating must include veggies and fruits. I love to check out the produce section and see what is fresh, and in season.  Some favorites in my house are apples and oranges. One of my girls can never get enough apples, and the other loves oranges… Me, well, I found kumquats at Walmart the other day and I had to have them!

There are a lot of great food products out there, all telling you how you can lose weight and look great.  When it comes down to it, really, you can eat what you want, as long as you practice proper portion control.

Check out some of the products I’ve tried and let me know what you think!

I am a participant in the Walmart Moms program.  Join me and my fellow Walmart Moms, and read about all of our New Year’s goals, and how we’re all making a Fresh Start in 2011! Walmart provided me with a gift card to purchase the items mentioned in this post. Walmart has provided me with compensation for my time on this post and video.  Participation in this program is voluntary. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.
