Mommy Brain Reports on- I Made It!

For Mother’s Day, I wanted to go to a place in Elk Grove, Ca called I Made It!. It’s a super cool place that you can go and paint ceramics, or make mosaics. They supply everything you need, and help you out with painting, or figuring out how the heck the glass cutters work for the mosaics. You just pay for the item, and a studio fee, which is more than worth it.

The first time we went there, we took the girls, and they were just over 1 year old. They got to put their hands in paint, and put their handprints all over some special gifts for just about everyone in the family. It made for a fun, and special Christmas.

We hadn’t been back there is so long, and it’s not because we didn’t want to… We just didn’t have the time! But it was always on my mind that I wanted to go back! When I was given the opportunity to choose what I wanted to do for Mother’s Day, that was top on my list. This time, though, the girls were old enough to paint their own pieces, and they were so excited to do that. They love anything arts & crafts, so this was big for them.

We got there as soon as they opened at 11am on Saturday, and it was very quiet. We let the girls walk around, and choose a piece to paint. They both chose identical coffee mugs, and then started asking for paint. We covered their plates with blobs of a bunch of different colors of their choosing, and let them at it. Daddy and I chose our pieces as well, and picked our colors out. He chose a cool square platter he was going to use for his “famous” home made Jalepeño Poppers. I chose a heart shaped plate for the girls to put their hand prints on, and a large salad bowl that I was going to put a couple of Hibiscus flowers on.

When it came time for me to get the girls’ hand prints, the lady that was working in the studio that morning came over to help me out. She took care of painting their hands and setting them on the plate while I just held up the plate for them. It was so cool! The girls loved getting paint all over their hands. What kid doesn’t? They had a good time squishing it between their fingers, and mixing colors. The lady also gave us really cool “tools” for making different designs with the paints. It was a super fun morning!

Daddy worked diligently on his Popper Platter, while I looked for more to do once my Hand Print Plate was finished. I ended up finding a really cool bowl to paint. They also had some cool little ceramic pieces that you could paint and have glazed onto the larger piece. I went crazy on those.. The girls picked one each for their mugs, a lady bug and a heart. I picked a couple of Hibiscus flowers for my bowl, and Daddy picked out letters to spell the word Poppers down the side of his platter. Everything turned out sooo cute!

Here are a few pictures of everything we made:

I love this place, and everyone that has worked with us that works there…. Although the girls were able to participate when they were just a year old, they have so much more fun now that they know how to use a paintbrush! They have several different ideas on the walls there, including baby footprints, hand prints, etc. Things that are just so cute, I wish I was able to do all of them!!! If you’re looking for a fun place to take the kids, this should definitely be on your list of places to go!

  1. I love this stuff! It’s darling!

Great blog, too! I’m a first time visitor, here via Entrecard. I have twin girls too! (And boy/girl twins as well!) Multiples are a blast, aren’t they? When they aren’t driving you to drink, anyway.

    I’ll be back! 🙂
