Creating a Backyard Oasis Pt1~ Better Homes & Gardens

Well, as you know, I just moved into a new home, in a new state, and everything here is so different from our previous home. Different in an amazingly good way though. Something we had never been able to have is a comfortable place to sit and enjoy outdoors. Well shucks, in CA, we didn’t even have an outdoors really, to enjoy!

When we were told that Better Homes & Gardens was giving us an outdoor living set of our choice to make our backyards into a better space, I was so excited. Of course, I held onto my money until we moved out to NC, and I’m so glad I did!

Since we moved in, Daddy and I have commented on how nice it would be to be able to sit out on our back deck in the cooler evenings and just relax. We’ve also mentioned treating the girls to breakfast outside on the weekends. Well, we took a look at our options when we went to our Walmart here, and the decision was pretty easy. We tried out some of the other brands, and they didn’t feel as strong. When I sat on one of the couches, I could feel the metal bars.. It just wasn’t comfortable. On the recommendation of one of the Walmart Associates, we tried out the Better Homes & Gardens set, and he was right. It felt solid, and the cushions really did cushion the chair. Ok, so we were sold. It also helped that the Associate that helped us had put all of the patio furniture together, and he told us that the Better Home & Gardens sets were definitely more solid than the others. He mentioned that if we were to go with the less expensive brand, it would more than likely rust out and have to be replaced within a year or two anyway. That made a BIG difference in our decision making as well.

We walked out of the store that day with a Better Homes & Gardens Seaside Garden 7 piece Dining set. We also purchased the umbrella and umbrella stand that they had put together with the dining set in the store. The guys helped us load everything into the van, and we tied the table top to the roof racks… It was a very fulfilling shopping experience.

It took us a couple of weeks, but we finally were able to find the time to put it all together. We started with a couple of chairs before it got too dark, and I ended up putting the rest together a day later all by myself. Yes, I’m impatient 🙂 3 hours later (remember I was working on this alone) and a bit of a nice suntan success! It really wasn’t all that bad to put together once you got one chair done, it was really easy to get the rest done.

Since then, we’ve enjoyed several lunches, dinners and relaxing moments outdoors. The weather has been amazing, and I love sitting at the table, watching my girls and the dog play around the yard. I’m very thankful to Better Homes & Gardens for giving us this dining set. Check out a few pics of my girls just hanging out at the table!
