Show Your Support and Green Light A Vet

Veterans Day is here, and it is a day to show our appreciation to those who have served, or are serving in our armed forces for their daily sacrifices. In the past, our service members have had such big celebrations when returning from wars, etc, but in more recent times, our service members seem to just disappear… They come back and there’s little to no recognition for what they do for us.

This year, Walmart wants everyone to show a visible act of support, and it’s so very simple! We’ve seen residents change a light in their home to a different color bulb for various reasons, and this is just the same.. Stop by your local Walmart store and pick up a green light bulb for just 96¢ and change any visible light in your home to green to show your appreciation and support.

Why a green bulb? Green is the color of hope, renewal and well-being. “Greenlight” is also a term commonly used to activate forward movement. The simple action of changing one light to green is intended to spark a national conversation regarding the recognition of veterans, and “greenlight” them forward as valued members of our communities.

If you change your light, take a quick photo and share it on Social Media with the hashtag  #greenlightavet and you might be able to see your post, Greenlight A Vet Social Shares! I took a look at it and there are such a huge outpouring of support, and I love it!

For more information on the Greenlight A Vet movement, check out the Greenlight A Vet website. There you’ll learn more about the movement, and check out some stories about 5 Veterans that have been highlighted in this program.

How is Walmart directly helping our Veterans? Check out their Welcome Home Commitment! This is just one way…

Keep that Green Light going! Veteran’s Day may only be just one day, but our Veteran’s need our support all the time! Strike up a conversation, and if they’re willing to tell their story, listen. You’ll never know what you might learn, or how you might help them. Sometimes all they need is someone to listen. I LOVED hearing my Grandpa’s stories, and remember them dearly…

Share this movement… Change just one visible light to green, and keep the support going!
