America's To-Do List Gets Done!

Spring time is finally here… Which means it’s time to tackle all of those outdoor projects that you’ve been saving up all Winter long…

Walmart is ready to be your one stop shop when it comes to getting that “to-do” list done! Walmart has just about everything you need to tackle those projects around the house, and I was very excited to get one of my projects done specifically for you.

My mission was to head over to my local Walmart store, and tackle one of my Spring projects, using supplies purchased at Walmart… Well, consider it DONE!

What was my project? New cushions for our out door furniture!

They’re only a year old, and we hated how they looked. It was time for a refresh to make our back porch a nicer place to sit and relax.
Here’s what our furniture looked like before:

It looked faded, and boring… I wanted something bright and inviting.

Walmart gave me $50 to spend, so, off to Walmart I went to see what kind of upholstery fabric I could find! At first, I was a little sad with the small selection that day. Usually, the shelves are quite packed. It took me a little bit of thinking, but I ended up finding tho very complimentary fabrics, and the more I looked at them together, the more I really loved them. I picked out 3 yards of each fabric, knowing that any overage will be used to make pillows or for other projects.

Of course, I had to pick out some thread, and figure out a way to close the cushion covers. I wanted to be able to take them apart easily for cleaning, so I picked out some large snaps. I purchased everything and headed home to get these done! I couldn’t wait to see how they looked in our back patio…

The first thing I did was clean the old cushions according to the directions on the tag. In this case, with a soapy sponge. I then let them air dry. WashOldCushions

Once the old cushions were dry, I used them to trace on the “wrong side” of the new fabric to give myself a sewing/cutting template. Once I traced the cushion, I folded the fabric over to check the fit, and adjust as needed. I then cut about an inch outside the trace lines to allow for the cushion thickness.

It helps to sew one side, and re-fit the cushion just to double check your sewing lines. Any adjustments were made at this point. Remarking any overages so that I could sew up any overages. As I completed the sewing, I turned the fabric right side out, keeping any seams inside, and fit the cushion inside the cover. It fit perfectly! All I did was repeat the process for each cushion!

Once the cushions were all sewn up, I needed to attach the closure snaps. These needed to be sewn on by hand, and spread out evenly across the opening. For the loveseat cushion, I used three snaps, and for the chair cushions, I only needed two per each.

I was so excited once all the snaps were done! The cushions fit perfectly inside the new covers, and I really liked the new fabric. Now, to clean out the screened in porch and place these cushions on the furniture!

We absolutely love how it looks! It’s definitely brought a new vibrance to our back patio furniture, and it looks like a great place to hang out and just read, or sit with the family or friends. Even hubby was happy with how it all turned out! The best part of it all is that it cost me just under $50 for everything that I needed!

So… Now that I have one Spring Project off of my list, I am excited about moving on and seeing how many more I can get done, and with Walmart’s every day low prices, I know that I can get more projects done for less!
