Walmart and P& G partner with Jared Allen in a Salute to Service

In honor of Veteran’s Day, Procter & Gamble (P&G) and Walmart are partnering with Jared Allen, defensive end for the Chicago Bears, and his foundation, Homes for Wounded Warriors (http://www.homesforwoundedwarriors.com), to help better the lives of Chicago veterans through the support of the Eddie Beard Homeless Veterans’ Housing Program (Vet House).

15582238139_1e94a038a1_zAccording to the Illinois State Veterans Department, more than half of the veterans in Illinois live in Chicago and the need for housing continues to grow. In fact, there are more homeless veterans today than US soldiers who died in the Vietnam War. It’s even something that we see in our local area since we live in a military community here in NC.

The Eddie Beard Vet House serves 15 veterans at any given time, with a waiting list of around 50. Current veterans housed there range in age from 25-80, representing generations upon generations of warriors. The house is managed by a Vietnam War veteran, Abdullah Hassan. Within eight months, 70% of the veterans find permanent housing and establish an income.

The veterans celebration with Jared Allen took place on Nov. 11 and consisted of a shopping trip at a local Walmart to buy P&G supplies needed for Chicago’s Eddie Beard Veterans House. Additionally, P&G and Walmart provided a year-supply of much-needed products for the Vet House including Bounty®, Oral-B®, Old Spice®, Tide®, Crest®, Scope®, and Charmin®.
