A Time for Giving and a Lesson in Being A Good Citizen

My girls were assigned a service learning project at school this year, and they both chose some really good ideas to help out our local community. One of my girls collected canned goods to donate to Christmas Cheer, a local organization that gives food and gifts to those in need. My other daughter chose to donate to the Giving Tree, a program at our local church that collects gifts and provides meals to those in our church that are in need. Both of my girls did an excellent job at their projects, and Walmart played a helpful role in both of their projects. Here’s how!

Canned good collection:

Alexandra collected canned goods from our friends and neighbors. She collected some 145 cans and other non-perishables over our Thanksgiving break from school. We bought some extras at our local Walmart to make it an even 150 cans! Everything was turned into their school for the Christmas Cheer program. She said that knowing her donations are going to help people who need it makes this project awesome. She learned that being a good citizen means that she’s helping to build a stronger community. I’m so proud of her…

VictoriaGivingTreeGiving Tree donations:

Victoria decided that she wanted to pick a card from the Giving Tree at our church for her project. We chose a card that was written up for an 8 year old girl who was asking for a few toys, and some clothing. That was easy! We also grabbed another card that asked for donations of gift cards so that food could be purchased to give to the families as well. We headed out to Walmart to grab the things we needed! She bought some clothes, and a pack of underwear, and two toys for her. We also bought a gift card that should be enough to buy a couple of Christmas dinners. We let her choose everything that she wanted to get, and she had fun shopping! She learned about helping others, that giving is awesome and helping another child have a better Christmas experience is a great way to celebrate the holiday.

Thank you to Walmart for providing us with a $20 gift card to help us help others have a better Christmas. We love shopping for others and helping out when we can.
