DIY – Fall Decorations For Your Mantle

Over the last couple of years, since we bought our home, I’ve been slowly gathering decorations for my home. I never really cared to before, only because I didn’t feel like it was worth it, when I knew we couldn’t paint, and we’d be moving within a couple of years. Why buy a bunch of things that might not work for the next house? Right?!?!

Well, this year, I finally got our living room painted, and I wanted to showcase that new color with some bright Fall colors! I wanted to bring some of the outdoors, in, so I decided to do a pinecone garland for my mantle. I wanted to incorporate a pretty color with the outdoorsy colors. Deep reds seem to be pretty popular this season, so when choosing my craft idea, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. This is super simple, and easy to do.

Pinecone Garland SuppliesWhat you need:

Several Pine Cones- You can search the yard for them, just make sure there are no insects in them. I bought Apple/Cinnamon Scented ones at Walmart

Ribbon- I bought the wire edged Cranberry colored satin ribbon

Eye Screws- Bought 1 1/8″ eye screws in the hardware section at Walmart

Drill- Choose a bit just a bit smaller than the diameter of the eye screws.

How you make it:

1. Choose the pine cones that you want to use. Mix up the sizes, but make sure they aren’t broken

2. Use the drill to start a hole in the center of the pine cone base.

3. Screw the eye screw into the drilled hole.

4. Thread the ribbon through the eye screw and place the pinecone where you’re like it on the ribbon. Tie the ribbon on the eye screw to keep it from sliding.

5. Hang the garland on the mantle and voila!

I like that I used the red ribbon, because now it works for Christmas too!

You can definitely use fluffier ribbon, or tulle for this if you’d like. Now that I have the eye screws set, I may experiment with different types of ribbon!

If you liked this idea, and try it out for yourself, I’d love to see how it turns out! Share a link to your pic in the comments! Got any suggestions? Share those too!
