Movie Review

Mommy Brain Reports on – Wall-E

This weekend, we had the girls’ Auntie & Uncle visiting from Santa Barbara for the weekend. We wanted to make this weekend super special for the girls, so Auntie and Uncle suggested taking the girls out for their first movie theater movie… We all went to see Disney/Pixar’s Wall-E. We weren’t too sure at how the girls would do at a theater, but it turns out they did great! But, I’m not here to talk about them! I’m here to talk about the movie!!! It was sooo cute!

I was a little sad watching this (I’ll explain why), but the movie itself was very well done. The graphics were amazing!

The movie starts off showing huge buildings, like a big cityscape, but then you see that the buildings are all made of cubes of compacted trash. Wall-E is a robot trash compactor, and he has a little cockroach as a pet. Ok, seriously, this was the first time I ever thought a roach was cute. Not that the roach was cute, but the interaction between the roach and Wall-E.. well, I was rooting for the roach… All around the “city” there are futuristic bill boards, and advertisements, talking about some cruise line, that takes you out into space, but you don’t see any humans.. Well, Wall-E has this huge box for a home, where he “sleeps” and keeps things he finds along the way. It’s actually quite funny how he decides what to keep as a souvenir, and what is deemed as trash. Anyway, one day, he sees a little red laser beam on the ground, and begins to chase it, eventually finding out that it’s some sort of rocket ship that drops off another robot. He hides behind a pile of trash, and watches. He soon finds out that this robot’s name is EVE, and they spend some time together. He sort of “falls in love” with EVE, and when he gives her a gift, a plant that he found growing underneath some trash, she scans it, grabs it, and places it inside her compartment. Then she turns off, and all that Wall-E sees is a glowing plant on her chest. He takes care of her, not sure what is wrong with her, holding an umbrella in a rain storm, taking her for walks with a string of christmas lights around her, and watching a sunset and trying to hold her hand. It was so cute, and so sad at the same time.

The rocket ship comes back, and takes EVE away, and Wall-E, trying to save EVE, ends up taking a very unexpected ride into space! He ends up inside the Axiom, the cruise ship in the sky, and sneaks around to try to find and save EVE. Wall-E finds out why EVE grabbed up that plant, and basically shut down.

I don’t want to give away the entire movie, so I’m going to stop talking about it now. I’m only going to leave you with… YOU NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE! I’m not a Sci-Fi fan, but I LOVE Disney and Pixar. This movie was the perfect combination.. and I loved it! I know my little write up just can’t do this movie justice… I really can’t wait until it comes out on DVD.. The girls absolutely loved it, and they get excited every time they see a picture of Wall-E.  I’m definitely going to buy it when it’s available! I think it was a perfect movie for the girls’ first time to a theater!
