DIY- Make your own Ring Bearer Pillow

I love to sew, and when I was asked to make a Ring Bearer’s Pillow for a wedding, I couldn’t say no. I looked around at the different stores to see what the pillows they sold looked like, just to get ideas on how I can make this one. I wanted it to look awesome, but I also wanted to save money!

I headed out to my local Walmart store, where I typically buy my fabric and sewing supplies. The bride was wearing a cream colored dress, so I wanted to match her. I found the cream colored satin and some cream colored wide organza ribbon with wired edges. I also got some very thin satin ribbon to make the ties for the rings. I really wanted to add something cute, so I ventured over to the jewelry section and found some really cute cross charms with jewels in the center. I couldn’t wait to get it all home to put together!

I measured out two 9×9 inch squares of the satin fabric and sewed them together on 3 of the 4 sides. I filled the pillow shell with stuffing wrapped in a layer of quilt batting to keep it smooth, and then sewed the final side closed.

Next, I took the wide organza ribbon and cut two lengths of it, long enough to wrap across both sides of the pillow. I secured them by sewing them to the center of the top of the pillow. I then made a bow with the wide ribbon and cut two long lengths of the thin satin ribbon, found the center and tied a loop into the thin ribbons giving a place to secure the wedding bands. I sewed the charms to the bow, and then hand sewed the whole bow and ribbons to the top center of the pillow.

Voila! It was done! It’s very easy to search around online for various designs, and sometimes easier to just buy one, but I love to give handmade gifts which can be just that much more special.
