DIY- Crocheted Ice Cream Cone Scarf

After having an absolute blast making my Hostess Cupcake Scarf, I figured I’d have some more freehand fun with crochet.

I’ve found that I always have random scraps of color left over from previous projects. Not enough to make any one thing, but put together to make something cool.. Perfect. My only regret is not writing down a pattern for this! I can give you the jist of it all, and hopefully the photo will help.

I started with making the “sugar cone”. I took some tan yarn and made the top by making a chain as long as I wanted the cone to be wide. As I turned for the next row, I would  reduce both sides of the row to make a triangle shape. Once my cone was complete, it was time to start the ice cream scoops! To do this, I used a variety of stitches to make a semi circle of flavor! I kept making *scoops* until the scarf was long enough to wear! Of course, I had to make the last few finishing touches. I made the base of the first scoop out of a couple of chains surrounded by shell stitching, and the used white yarn and shell stitching to make a whipped cream topping. The final touch was a cherry crocheted in the round, just big enough and then sewn on.

This scarf turned into a great gift to my sister. It was fun to make, and it was an awesome way to use up some of my yarn scraps that otherwise would have just sat in a bin forever.

  1. Dear Monica, you are killing me. Your pins and the crochet projects are adorable. I finally taught myself to crochet after knitting for almost my entire life. I am in love and can’t wait to try something like this.
