Searching for a new smart phone device? Haven’t had a chance to try them out yet? MommyBrainReports highlights a few of the techie products we’ve been able to test out recently!

Let’s start with the HTC Droid Incredible. It’s on the Verizon network, it’s got a pretty cool 3.7 inch, 8 megapixel touch screen. Here’s a little review from my hubby:

“It was a great size. It ran Android flawlessly. I loved the multitasking. Coming from the iPhone 3G and using Pandora, it would cut off Pandora if I went to use another app. The Incredible’s multitasking abilities allowed me to listen to my music, check my other apps, and keep up with my email without anything shutting off. The GPS  on the phone was pretty spot on when we went driving around. It actually chose a better route than our dedicated GPS did at one point. The camera was great for both photos and video. It gave me great resolution (8Megapixel) and was very handy for when my kids did something funny, or I wanted to take a quick photo. The battery life was decent, and I didn’t find myself needing to keep it on a charger all day.” ~Ryan

I did get to try it out for a short time before sending it back. You may  have seen me walking around BlogHer with two phones in my hands. At the time, I wasn’t quite sold on Android, but it’s grown on me, and honestly… I’ve come to like it much better than the iPhone.

Next up we have the Motorola DroidX, also on the Verizon network. This phone had an amazing touch screen. It funs Android (of course) and was super fast. The phone was quite a bit larger than the Droid Incredible, which makes for just putting it in your pocket a little bit more of a task… Just don’t try to buckle your seatbelt with it in your pocket… ouch… Hubby had a couple of issues with the internet at first, but after some troubleshooting, we figured out that it was the site that wasn’t compatible, not an issue with the phone. Otherwise, it was very similar to the HTC Incredible, and all in all, a great phone.

While we were on the search for a new phone, yes leaving the iPhone behind (*gasp*).. we came across, and ultimately decided to purchase, the HTC Evo 4G on the Sprint Network. It was nothing against Verizon…. They, like our issue with AT&T, just didn’t have the best service in our house. The Evo 4G is very comparable to the Motorola Droid X. The phone boasts an 8MP camera, with dual LED flash. I wouldn’t put too much faith in that flash though. The photos I’ve taken that use the flash get really washed out and over white/bright. Other than that, I can’t complain though. I’m really loving the Android OS, and the Apps that are available are pretty awesome. Some of the apps that I had to pay for on the iPhone, I don’t on the Evo.. and of course, some apps aren’t available, but there are comparable apps available.

Something else that is worth a try is the Powermat system. I’m sure you’ve seen the commercials “Bleep the cords”.. Yeah, it’s really a great idea. I love being able to just place my phone on the mat and charge it. It’s so much more convenient than digging around for a cord, plugging it in. I didn’t really think about how convenient it would be to just set my phone down to charge, but it’s pretty cool. I’ve only had one problem with my Powermat thus far, and I’m wondering if it’s just poor design. The Evo4G Powermat device is a replacement door, with a little USB plug that you have to take out to use the phone’s data port. Mine has come apart and stuck into the phone. After a while, it actually stopped charging. It is probably not making a connection. I haven’t had a chance to trouble shoot it. Powermat did send me a second device to try, and it did the same thing. I like the idea of a case, or having the power connection enclosed somehow, like they do for the iPhone. Maybe they’ll work on the design a little more to make it even better for the Evo4G. Any other device is great for the Powermat.

Yes, we’re techies here… If you’re in the market for a new Smart Phone, these are worth checking out.
