If you’ve been following my blog, my twitter or my facebook, you’ll know that I’ve tried a few fitness programs over the past year or so, and when I was offered the chance to try the Your Shape Featuring Jenny McCarthy fitness program for the Wii, and couldn’t resist. The idea of something using a camera to track my movements intrigued me, and when the package arrived, I was very excited.

Setup of the camera was very easy. It just plugged into the back of the Wii console, and set up on top of my TV. I popped the CD into the console, and off I went. I set up my exercise mat and was just super excited to figure everything out.

I started out with setting up my profile! I entered my name, and if you want to, you can enter in a password. Then it asks for what type of measuring system I wanted to use (Metric/Imperial) That’s a pretty neat feature that helps make it usable for many people. Then it asks for Height and um.. Weight… HAHA… It gives you time to adjust your camera so that you can be seen fully in the window, and set ups a Body Scan to make a digital representation of you. You can then set up areas of your body that you really want to focus on and how you want to focus in it. The program then sets up a physical challenge to see where you are physically. This is where it had trouble for me.

In my living room, my windows are behind my couch.. Therefore they are behind me, and in front of my TV. I don’t have curtains up, only the shades that came with the house, and they are not light blocking shades. When I tried to use the program, the light behind me was so bright that most everything in the camera (except the windows) was very dark. I’m pretty sure it had a little bit of trouble trying to decide between me and the couch behind me. I turned my camera away from the windows and kept on going.. It worked better without the bright light behind me.

After completing the physical challenge, it scored how I did, allowed me to schedule my workout days, how long I wanted to workout each day, and what part of my body I wanted to focus on. It even had an option to include some exercise equipment like a stability ball, hand weights or a step.

I was able to do a few workouts with the program, and really did feel the burn when I was done. I have to admit though… My favorite part of the whole program is the Special Challenges. With awesome workouts like “Get Bikini Ready, Active Mom Routine, New Year’s Resolution and (my personal fave) Free Your Mind”, I can add a little extra oomph to my workouts. I do like Free Your Mind the best though. It’s one of those workouts that doesn’t really feel like a workout. Yoga is something I’ve always loved, and I can finally do a good amount of it here at home!

There’s a lot of things to try out with the Your Shape fitness program, and while I won’t be getting rid of my other fitness programs I’ve used with the Wii, it’s a good thing to add to my collection! Variety is always a good thing when it comes to exercise!!!

  1. I just want to get in shape – I don't really care about losing weight. Just give me some muscles and some endurance!

Thank you for the giveaway. 🙂

  2. I weigh more today then I did while 10 months pregnant with my first child. Worse, I suspect that additional weight is ascerbating my GERD and disrupting my sleep cycle. While I am not obese by medical standards I do believe my body frame is stressed from trying to support the additional weight. My fitness goal this year would be to drop 15 pounds(dropping back to 130s) and to incorporate 2 fruits and 3 vegetables daily particularly by ensuring at least 1 vegetable go with lunch and dinner and a fruit with breakfast)into my day(last year I switched to lean meat and the year before whole grains so this switch is all about making my family healthier too and leading by example).

  3. I want to get back into some shape, less roundish would be good. I would love to lose 20 pounds in the process.

  4. I'm working on losing the rest of my baby weight (2 years later!). I'm 21 pounds down so far and this would be great to get that last 15 pounds off!

  5. I am looking to lose weight. Not a ton but about 15 pounds. Then I would like to tone up. I have a sweet tooth and it can pack on the pounds for me. lol.

  6. Sign.me.up.

My fitness goals are … well, to be fit! AND to find a healthy self image for MYSELF so I can pass it on to my two daughters. I can't give them what I do not have!

  7. My fitness goals for this year are to tone up! And this looks great because I can do it from the comfort of my own home and not have to drag the kids to a gym day care! Yay!
