Mommy Brain Reports on- Jishaku & Giveaway

This Giveaway is now closed to entries!

Just recently, I was sent a new game called Jishaku. It’s a strategy game unlike any other! When I saw this game’s website, I saw that it had magnets in it, and I had to try it out!

When my game arrived at my door, I was very excited. I opened everything up, and was very surprised at the magnetic power these hematite stones had! They were some of the strongest magnets I’ve ever seen! My Brother in law took out the instructions and read through the rules. I took out the game “board”. There are three ways to play the game, all of them are equally as fun and challenging. They all really depend on your ability to feel and learn the positive and negative attractions of the magnets through the foam game “board”. This was definitely going to be interesting.

We started out with our magnets, and placed them all around the board. Now, the object of the game we were playing, was to get rid of all of your magnets by placing them on the board. If your magnet caused a reaction where it pulled in other magnets on the board, you had to keep all of those magnets. I thought it was going to be super easy… It wasn’t. It was actually much more challenging than it looked! It was very weird to see your pieces move when you weren’t even touching them. We had some good laughs when the one who thought they were on their last piece caused a reaction and ended up taking out 4 or 5 pieces.

My Husband saw us playing the game, and wanted to get in on the game. He played my Brother in law, and they had a blast. I think the funniest part is that this game is so addicting! I just kept trying to figure out the best strategy for placing my stones, whether it was get rid of my largest stones first, or place all stones as close to the edge as possible, or whatever else I could think of. Sometimes it worked, most of the time, it didn’t.

As much fun as it was for us adults, my girls had a lot of fun just playing with the magnets! They are 3 years old, and very curious about how things work. Of course, they’re a little too young to really understand the rules of the game itself, but they did like playing with the magnets, and seeing how they could make them jump from one spot to another in the foam. I was all for it! It made this fun game, an educational tool as well!

This game was such a blast! I totally recommend it! It would be a great party game! Jishaku is rated for ages 8 and up. The small magnetic pieces make it unsuitable for younger children, especially without parental supervision.

  3. I learned about this game a couple of months ago and I’ve been coveting it ever since. It looks fantastic and I know it would induce more laughter than ever. The element of surprise that it has is the best part!

  4. While alternating turns with your opponent(s), the goal of the game is to place magnets onto the game base – without letting any magnets connect == the goal! Any age can enjoy this game.

  31. Absolutely LOVED the “Strategies” section of their website — I have ~several~ people in my family who would benefit from the reinforcement of “Stop, move slowly, THINK about what you’re seeing before you DO ANYthing” approach…

    We need this!

  32. While I’d be a little worried about littler kids maybe swallowing a magnet, and MAYBE about problems getting it through Airport Security, this would probably be one of the COOLEST games we could get in terms of FORCING some strategy and “slow down, let’s think about this first” behaviors!

  33. This game sounds like it would be so much fun for the whole family. I really love that the magnets can move out of position, making the game all the more interesting. Thanks!
