PBM Teams Up With Univ. of VA

I’ve been seeing a lot of questions on the internet from new moms who are trying to find ways to save money, and they’re asking questions about store brand formula vs. name brand formulas.

  • “Are store brands just as good as name brands?”
  • “Do they have the same vitamins and nutrients as the name brands?”
  • “Why do they cost so much less? They can’t be the same thing!”

Well, one company is trying to dispel the stories that store brand formula isn’t as good as name brands. So, if you’re a mom who is already supplementing your breast feeding with formula, or completely formula feeding your infant, listen up! While, we all know that breast feeding is the best for your baby nutritionally, and probably for you financially, if you have already made the decision to formula feed, then this information is for you!

PBM Products, LLC, a leading infant formula company that supplies store brand formulas to many retailers, including Walmart, Target, Sam’s Club among others, has teamed up with the University of Virginia to conduct clinical studies on infant nutrition.

According to James L. Sutphen, M.D., Ph.D., U.Va. Department of Pediatrics and lead researcher on studies involving PBM formulas, it is very common for formula-fed infants to be switched from one formula to another during the first year of life.

“It’s important to remember that all infant formulas manufactured and sold in the United States are strictly regulated by the Food and Drug Administration and must be backed by comprehensive growth and development studies,” said Dr. Sutphen. “Our work proves there is no physiological reason why you can’t switch from one brand of infant formula to another that shares the same protein source, which means store brands are just as nutritionally sound as national-brand formulas.”

Store brand formulas can save parents up to 50% versus the major name brand formulas for a potential savings of $600 per year. Check out the baby savings calculator at www.parentschoiceformula.com/baby-formula-savings-calculator.aspx for more information.
