Soooo, We're moving.

If you’ve been listening to my Blog Talk Radio show, then you know that I’m moving. It’s not a little move either. We’re going from California to the East Coast, and we’re doing it in less than two weeks!!! YIKES!

My hubby was offered a really great job with a technology firm in North Carolina, and we couldn’t turn it down. We are going to be leaving behind pretty much all of our family and friends, which is probably the hardest part of this whole move. We are, however, very excited about the new beginning this move is going to afford us. We’ll be able to set up a new house, get rid of all kinds of old things we’ve been hanging on to for years and years, and we’ll finally have a yard for the girls to play in! Our home right now, although it’s a good size, just doesn’t work for us anymore. The back yard is concrete, and I hate letting the girls out to play for fear that they’ll fall and really get hurt.

Well, this move has brought about a few challenges for us. One is packing and moving all of our belongings across the country. Two is navigating our way along the freeways, highways and other roads. Three is keeping the girls occupied while we’re driving for hours at a time. I’ll tackle each one here.

1. Packing and Moving:

We hired a moving company. There was no way I thought we’d be able to haul all of our belongings cross country by ourselves. We did do most of the packing though. Rubbermaid was kind enough to send us several Large and Medium totes to use for packing everything up. I used them all! We packed everything from clothing and books to kitchen items in them. We even used a few to pack things up in our van for the trip over. That definitely helped us keep organized! I’ll update again later when we get to North Carolina and let you know how the packing went in the Rubbermaid totes. I’m wondering if they’ll fare better or worse than the professional packers!

2. Navigation:

I can’t follow a map and drive at the same time. It takes too much effort, and taking my eyes off the road scares me! We knew we’d be following the interstate, but looking for gas stations and rest stops along the way besides just looking for road signs was going to be very important, and we knew a GPS device would help us. I contacted Magellan, and they sent me their Maestro 4350! When this arrived at my house, I was so excited! I knew that we’d be able to drive more safely across, and I’d be able to navigate our new town when we got there!

3. Keeping our girls occupied:

I had won a Leapster2 and a couple of games from one of Mama Speaks a while back, and knew that this would be perfect for our trip. I told my husband that we’d have to get another one before we took off, and a few more games too. I just hoped the girls would be able to figure it out in a very short time, and not throw any fits because they couldn’t play it… I also planned on taking as many of their favorite Disney Princess movies as I could.

Well, I think I have it all thought out. I’m hoping to get enough time to update when we are on the road, but I’m not making any promises… Wish us luck! The drive is going to be April 6-11 so keep us in your thoughts for a safe, and hopefully uneventful trip. Please excuse me if I’m scarce for a little bit. There’s a lot to take of in the next few weeks to prepare for this move! I’ll have some guest bloggers on while I’m out…
Talk to everyone soon!!!
