If you’ve been following my blog, then you know about the Tylenol Incident here at home. Today, I was very lucky to have Colleen Driscoll, Executive Director of the  International Association for Child Safety join me on my Blog Talk Radio show. On today’s show, I mentioned that Leaps and Bounds sent me the Medicine Safe and the Clean Guard to try out, and I am so thankful they did!
In the Tylenol Incident, while my husband and I were still asleep, my girls worked together and got their hands on their Children’s Tylenol and decided to give themselves a dose, since they were still sick. That opened my eyes and made me realize that my house just wasn’t as safe as I had thought it was. I went on a mission to find something that I could use to lock up all of the medicines that we had in the house. After visiting several stores, and asking if they had a medicine safe, they all looked at me like I had no idea what I was talking about. In contacted Leaps and Bounds as soon as I got home and they were more than willing to send one to me to try out. Honestly, the medicine safe and the Clean Guard both make me feel so much safer having one more barrier between my girls and these potentially harmful things!
The Medicine Safe is basically a small plastic box with a couple of dividers, a tray and a child safe lock on the front of it. Its very simple, yet so valuable. The Clean Guard is a large basket again, with a tray and a child safe lock on the lid. It holds quite a large collection of cleaning supplies, which is great for me! I love trying out new cleaners so I have quite a few of them! It fits perfectly underneath my kitchen sink, and it’s just skinny enough to clear any pipes in there that I can open it without taking it out of the cabinet.
Now, before I put anything in either of these containers, I gave them to my girls. I started a stop watch to see how long it would take them to figure out. They squeezed the tabs a few times, and let go. They spun the knobs around for a long time, and after about 45 seconds, they both looked up at me and were very upset. “Mommy! I just can’t open it!” I was so happy! I know that eventually they will put two and two together and figure out that they need to squeeze the tabs and turn it at the same time, but until then, we don’t open the locks in front of the girls, and they don’t get into the medicines and cleaning supplies. It works for me!

Our wood stove was one of the child proofing issues we had. We used a large portable fence, and it worked great. The other one was the cleaners while I was cleaning the bathroom. I keep them in a bucket, but of course, with three small kids, (triplets) It was difficult to keep them out of the bathroom while I was cleaning. I eventually went to doing it only when my husband was around or when they were sleeping.

I have a 3 year old. She has been walking before she turned 9 months old. She also has the ability to get into everything. We have to lock our bedroom doors, bathroom doors, etc… Guess what? She can still open them. Yikes!

We lock up things constantly in order to keep the children away. This item would be very useful.
My concern is that my son will climb the cabinets to get to the medicines. Also, he know how to open the child proof locks we have on the lower cabinets. I’ve never seen anythings like this and think it would be useful for us!
My concern with my grandbabies is with getting into my medicines. How horrified I would be if that ever happened. This would be a wonderful thing to have to prevent that from ever happening. Thank you!

We had a similar incident, but with cough syrup. I never thought that my children could open those child proof tops.
Anyway, the kids were thirsty, and for whatever reason decided to go get the syrup and drink it while I was in the bathroom taking a shower! It is amazing how quickly kiddos can get into stuff.

We have a two and a half year old daughter who is, naturally, in to EVERYTHING! So imagine our chagrin when we moved in to an apartment that has no handles on the cabinets! No handles = no way to lock (that I know of, at least not without damaging the cabinets and losing my deposit!) We keep as much as we can out of her reach, but there’s only so much room up high! So these items would be of great use to us! I had not heard of them before. Thank you for the opportunity to win them!

My little boy has just been learning about getting into the cabinets, and is especially facinated with the kitchen. I’m so scare that he’s going to figure things out and get into the cleaning product! These products would be such a God send! Thanks for hosting this awesome giveaway!
Right now I am concerned with our baby getting little items from our older child’s toys. Especially Barbie shoes. Is there a good way to teach my older child what can’t be left around, or should I take these items away from her for a little while until my baby is old enough to not put things in her mouth?

I so need this. I have a 6 yr old autistic son who is a great climber, and gets into everything, and a three year old daughter who doesn’t get that vitamins aren’t candy, and it’s so hard to keep our meds safe. We’ve outgrown my original box. that I’d stashed the meds in…

I have outlet covers that my oldest learned to take out at the age of 3 1/2. Latches on kitchen and bathroom cabinets that are holding up for now. I keep medications in out-of-reach high cabinets but I do have little climbers at home, so this would be perfect for us.

My main concern is exactly this. We have no medicine chests in out bathrooms so right now we keep all our meds with our glasses in the kitchen. It’s only time before that won’t be good enough anymore. They need to be locked up.

I so need this for my grandchildren- I,m on alot of medication where I,m sick. When they come to stay the night I worry all night afraid one of them might accidentally get in to them. This would be a blessing for me.
