DIY Wine/Beer Glasses: Ring In the New Year With Friends

New Year’s Eve is a big day for our family. Not only is it my birthday, but it’s also NEW YEAR’S EVE!!! We have never really been the ones to go out to big parties or clubs on NYE. Instead, we invite friends over put a bunch of food on the smoker and just have fun! It’s totally kid friendly, so no one needs to search for a kid sitter, and everyone gets to enjoy time with friends.

Every year, I like to do something fun for everyone that comes by to spend time with us. Whether they come over for the entire evening, or just stop on their way to another event. This year, I got a new vinyl cutter for crafting, and could not wait to use it. So this year, I decide to decorate some wine and beer glasses to give to everyone. It seemed easy enough since I already had the vinyl and transfer tape, so, I gave it a try.

I went to my local Walmart store to grab the glasses that I needed. I picked up three of the Libbey White Wine Glasses 4 pack for $9.97 each and three of the Libbey Glass 8 Piece Flare Cooler Set for just $6.98 each.

First thing I had to do was clean all of the glasses off with alcohol.. Making sure to get any dust and oils off of the glasses.

I set up my software and designed the decals for the wine glasses and then the beer glasses. Once I was happy with how everything looked, I sent it to cut

The next step is probably the most tedious and time consuming one. It’s called “weeding”. This step is where you take out all of the little pieces that you don’t want to transfer to the glasses. To make things easier, I cut my labels out of the sheet and worked on them as individual labels.

Once the weeding is done, I cut a piece of transfer paper just large enough to cover the label I’m using. I hold it up to the glass to make sure everything looks the way I want it to, and peel off the sticker backing.

Carefully stick on the decal with the transfer tape. Once the vinyl is on there, it’s very difficult to move, so make sure you place it on how you’d like it! Use a popsicle stick or similar to rub the decal on securely to the glass. Carefully peel off the transfer paper, making sure that none of the vinyl peels up.

That’s it! Remember that anything you use the vinyl on must be hand washed! Here are the two glasses that I made to give away! Two down, 19 more to go!

This is just one idea that we had for the vinyl cutter.. There are so many more ideas!  I decided to do these over champagne flutes because I wanted to make something that can be used more often than something that would just be used once or twice a year… I sure do hope our friends like them! I love how they turned out!
