Walmart and COVERGIRL Say #GirlsCan Do Anything!

Girls can do ANYTHING! If you don’t believe that, then you need to read this post!

Have you ever had a moment when you thought that you couldn’t do something? I’ve seen it all too often. In fact, I’ve even experienced it within myself. I recently made myself a goal to run a 10K race, the Marine Corps Marathon 10K, in Washington D.C. I ran with my girls as a Girls on the Run Coach. I am not a runner. In fact, I don’t really like running, but this goal of mine was to seriously run this race. Let me go back in time. Two years ago, I signed up for this same race. I finished the 10K in just under 2 hours. I knew I could better than that. This year, I finished in 1:21:40. I was so excited. When it all started, with my knee hurting, I was tired, and I just didn’t think I could finish. My family was running with me, the crowds were cheering… I had to finish, and finish strong. I know a 10K isn’t a huge race, and someday I’ll do another 1/2 Marathon, but this was a big accomplishment for me.

As a coach for the group called Girls on the Run at my daughters’ school. I’ve seen a lot of girls say “I can’t” when it comes to running. We have a couple of girls who didn’t think they could run a 5K, but once they did, had the biggest feeling of accomplishment. I have been so proud of all of them.

All over the place, there are girls who think that they can’t do something, so they don’t even try, or if they do try, they quit early.  COVERGIRL and Walmart recently partnered up to support the #GirlsCan campaign, which promotes the empowerment of women. It’s about encouraging girls to break down barriers and turning “can’t” into “can.” Everyone has a #GirlsCan story and our COVERGIRLs are proud to share theirs.
