DIY Decorations: It's Fall Y'all!

It’s Officially the first day of FALL!!! We are so very excited for this part of the year. Fall just marks the beginning of some awesome things… Holidays, Birthdays, and various other events, beautiful colors in the leaves, cooler weather… There’s just so much that makes Fall one of the best times of the year, and we wanted to celebrate that!

This year has been the year for turning our house into a home, and that means decorating and making things look nicer. Decorating means either making or buying things. Typically, I’ll make things for the house, or figure out how to buy things at good prices.

Well, I was asked to showcase some of the Fall decór at my local Walmart store, any way I wanted… so… Here’s what I did. I transformed my front yard from drab to fab. I spent the weekend shopping for just the right pieces, getting the yard cleaned up, taking what few items I had from last year out of the attic, and getting everything hung up.

What do you think?

Fall Leaf 6′ Garland: 12x $2.97

Artificial Pumpkins: 3x $5.97

Mums: 9x 96¢

Autumn Blessings Angel Sign: $4.97

It was really easy, once the yard work was done! 3M sticky hooks make the whole thing a breeze, and since I’m not drilling holes in my vinyl siding, I’m not worried about water getting in and messing things up!

The Fall Leaf Garland has little rings at each end, which makes hanging it up a snap. I started by hanging 4 strands from a hook centered on my porch overhang. I needed a center piece, and loved the Autumn Blessings Angel Sign, so I hung that on the center hook.

I carried over two to each side and hung it to the top of my pillars, to make the “swag”.

Next I hung two more strands from the top of the pillar, and connected two more at the ends, simply by squeezing one ring and inserting it into the other. It holds quite well! Now I had two strands of 12′ of garland, and I wrapped them around the pillar and secured them to the bottom with another 3M sticky hook!

We found some really pretty artificial pumpkins that we wanted to use simply for accent pieces. All I did was set them at the base of the pillars.

Next was all about the flower beds. I love colorful flowers in our front yard, and when all of my Spring flowers are dying out, it’s time for the Mums to come out and shine. While shopping around the Walmart Garden Center, I found some small pots of Mums for just 96¢ each! Seriously! Less than a dollar! I grabbed up 9 pots, 3 of each color (purple, red and yellow). My flowerbeds needed some filler after all the trimming I did, so this was perfect! They may be small now, but I know they grow pretty quickly!

It may have taken all day, but looking at it now, I’m really happy with how things turned out. It’s the first time I’ve really even attempted to decorate for Fall, and I can’t wait to add to the collection every year. The only thing I’m thinking about now, though… is “What am I going to do for Halloween?” hee hee…

Check out your local Walmart store, or Walmart.com for affordable, and really awesome Fall decor!
